How to search for document families

Document families, also known as parent and child documents, represent documents with one or more attachments.

Searching

  • To search for documents with attachment(s), use "childcount()"
  • To search for a range of attachment counts, use "childcount(__to__)
  • To search for documents with parent(s), use "parentcount()"
  • To search for a range of parent counts, use "parentcount(__to__)

For example, to search for documents with two attachments, you would search "childcount(2)".

Attachments

To view a document's children (e.g. attachments), navigate to the left sidebar. Click the “Attachment” button to list all of the children of the current document, sorted by sent date from earliest to most recent.

Click on a row to navigate to a particular attachment (or use keyboard shortcut “SHIFT + up/down” to navigate to the next or previous document). This jumps to previous/next email inside the current conversation.

Parents

To view a document's parent(s), navigate to the left sidebar. Click the “Parents” button to list all of the parents of the current document, sorted by sent date from earliest to most recent.

Click on a row to navigate to a particular parent (or use keyboard shortcut “SHIFT + up/down” to navigate to the next or previous document). This jumps to previous/next email inside the current conversation.

NOTE: By default, DISCO will tag an entire family (parent and attachments) when a parent document is tagged. The inverse is not true; when you tag an attachment, the parent is not tagged.
