How do I search for email contents (how do I search metadata)?

When searching in DISCO, if you do not specify a specific field, the search will look at the exact term you type and find matches in any of the metadata fields and/or body of the document. This means, if you were to search the email "jeffery.skilling@enron.com", the search results would include documents where the email "jeffery.skilling@enron.com" appeared in all of the following places:

  • "To" field for metadata on an email
  • "From" field for metadata on an email
  • "CC" field for metadata on an email
  • "BCC" field for metadata on an email
  • Subject line field for metadata on an email
  • Body text for a document

DISCO will not, however, make inferences about the email address and also find instances where the name of the email's owner appears. For example, it will not bring back documents where "Skilling, Jeffery" appears in the metadata or body text.  The search will only bring back documents that have the exact characters entered into the search query.
