The Organization Metrics page is your central hub for monitoring data usage across your entire organization.
What’s New in Q1 2026?
- Verified Billable Sizes: Data metrics now align with your billable size, giving you a clear view of monthly hosting totals, incorporating high-water mark billing logic and data stored in the Active, ECA, and Vault.
- Case Integration: You can now view Case databases alongside your review databases for a complete picture of your organization's footprint.
- Enhanced Matter Visibility: Each matter now displays its Primary Matter Type, making it easier to categorize, filter, and report on data usage by practice area or case type.
- Streamlined Navigation: We’ve updated the search and filter tools to be more powerful and consistent with the rest of the DISCO platform.
To access, click on Metrics in the Organization Manager main menu.
Understanding Your Metrics
The metrics page provides a breakdown of your billable data usage across your organization.
Data States
Your total data footprint is the sum of data across these four states:
- Total GB: The comprehensive sum of all billable data managed within a database across all stages (Active, ECA, and Vault).
- Active GB: Data hosted in the Active Review stage. This data is fully indexed, enriched with AI, and ready for immediate document review and production.
- ECA GB (Early Case Assessment): Data residing in the ECA environment. This allows you to perform high-level analysis and culling at a different rate before promoting specific documents to Active Review.
- Vault GB: Data that has been moved to nearline storage for long-term preservation. While this data is not actively searchable, all work product and AI models are preserved at a significantly lower cost.
Organization-Wide Summary
The metric cards located at the top of the page provide a consolidated, high-level view of your usage across the entire platform. These figures represent the total sum of all data currently managed within your organization, aggregating metrics from every individual Review and Case database into a single, comprehensive snapshot. Use these totals to quickly monitor your organization data footprint.
Billable Metric Types
Depending on your organization's specific agreement, your usage is calculated using one of two billable metrics:
- Pre-processed GB: Billing is based on the size of the files transferred to DISCO at ingest-time.
- Processed GB: Billing is based on the size of the data after it has been expanded and indexed by DISCO. This reflects the actual volume of data being hosted and managed in the platform.
Note: You can now see which metric is being applied to each matter directly within the dashboard table, ensuring there are no surprises when you receive your invoice.
Understanding Your Data Size Calculations
The GB sizes displayed in your dashboard represent the current billable size of your database for the current calendar month. It is important to note how this data is captured based on the date you are viewing the metrics:
- Point-in-Time Billing: If you view your metrics on December 31st, the dashboard displays the billable size for the month of December. On January 1st, the view resets to display the billable size for the month of January.
- High Water Mark (HWM) Impact: For organizations on an HWM agreement, the billable size reflects the peak volume reached during that month.
- Subscription Agreement Impact: For organizations on a subscription agreement, the billable size reflects the current size of the database.
- Effective Dates: Because HWM is calculated monthly, actions such as vaulting a database on December 31st will not reduce your Active GB or increase your Vault GB for the month of December. The new vault rates and size adjustments will take effect on the first day of the following month (January 1st). The same logic is applied to culling data from a database.
- Update Frequency: Data is updated daily at a minimum, but refreshes can occur as frequently as every hour. Note: you may see null values for billable GB and billable metric for newly created databases. This is expected behavior as our systems require at least an hour to update and reflect the appropriate sizes and metrics for the database you just created and/or performed data activity within.
Matter Details
To help you organize and audit your data, the metrics table now includes:
- Primary Matter Type: Instantly see if a matter is categorized as Bankruptcy, Class Action, etc., without having to open the matter settings.
- Database Type: Distinguish between standard Review databases and Case databases.
Navigating the Metrics Table
We have improved the usability of the metrics table to help you find information faster:
- Search: Quickly find a specific matter by name or ID using the updated search bar.
- Filters: Use the dropdowns to filter your view by Primary Matter Type or Database Status.
- Exports: Use the Export button to download your current view as an Excel or CSV file to perform a deeper analysis or internal chargeback
Note on Data Events: To ensure you are only seeing the most accurate, billing-verified information, the "Data Events" log has been removed. All usage data is now consolidated into the main metrics view to prevent any confusion between real-time activity and final billable totals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my database size look different than it did before? Previously, the metrics page displayed a preliminary estimate of data volume before billing logic was applied. It now displays each database’s current monthly billable size, which aligns more closely with the sizes used on your invoices.
Please note that this metric focuses on hosting volumes; it does not include one-time ingest sizes that may appear on your invoices depending on your specific contractual terms.
Are Case databases included in my total usage? Yes, active Case databases are now visible in Organization Metrics. How they appear depends on your specific billing structure:
- Processed GB Billing: If your Case database displays a GB size, it is being billed based on the total processed data volume.
- User-Based Billing: If the size appears as "-" or zero, that database is billed based on user seat count rather than data volume. In these instances, the data associated with that database is not included in your organizational GB totals.
How often is this data updated? Data is updated daily at a minimum, but refreshes can occur as frequently as every hour.
What happened to the “Data Events” tab? To ensure you are only seeing the most accurate, billing-verified information, the "Data Events" log has been removed. All usage data is now consolidated into the main metrics view to prevent any confusion between real-time activity and final billable totals.
I forgot to pull my data usage on the last day of the month to view my billable sizes for the month of December. It's now January 1st and my billable sizes have changed. What do I do? Please submit a billing inquiry via the following link and request a report for historical billable sizes. We are working on future enhancements to provide this historical data directly in product.
