Depending on your organization's specific agreement, your usage is calculated using one of two billable measurements:
- Pre-processed size: Billing is based on the size of the files transferred to DISCO at time of ingest. Matters created prior to the development of the DISCO Platform follow this billing measurement (i.e. Legacy matters).
- Processed size: Billing is based on the size of the data after it has been expanded and processed by DISCO. This reflects the actual ongoing volume of data being hosted and managed in the platform.
Matters in the DISCO Platform are billed using the processed size, which involves calculating the combined size of the following dimensions across Ediscovery and deposition management (Case Builder).
Ediscovery:
- Deduplicated natives
- Near natives (images)
- Text / OCR
- Productions and reproductions
Deposition management (Case Builder):
- Deposition videos
- Deposition transcripts
- Deposition sync files
- Deposition exhibits
- Deposition other documents
FAQ
- How can I get further information about processed GB data usage in my organization?
- The Organization Metrics knowledge base article contains further information about viewing billable data usage across your organization’s matters – including pre-processed and processed GB matters
- You can contact support@csdisco.com for a breakdown of your billable data across the Natives, Near Natives, Text/OCR, and Productions data buckets
- How does DISCO deduplicate documents?
- Learn more about how DISCO deduplicates documents here
- How are database exports charged in a DISCO Platform matter?
- Since database exports involve running a production, you will be charged for the size of this production in your matters in the DISCO Platform when performing a database export at your Active Review rate
- When are productions billed in a DISCO Platform matter? What if the production fails? Will I be charged for the failed production?
- Productions are billed and counted toward your matter’s processed GB measurement in a DISCO Platform matter once the zip file is available to download in the product UI. You will not be charged for failed productions since no zip file would be created
- What is the unit of measurement for billable size at DISCO?
- DISCO measures billable size in bytes/kibibytes/mebibytes/gibibytes/etc. While the product UI and invoices display “KB”/”MB”/”GB” in relevant touchpoints, the underlying size is measured in kibibytes/mebibytes/gibibytes rather than kilobytes/megabytes/gigabytes/etc.
- Ex. a 50 GB Active size is 50 gibibytes
