Creating a new tag

You can also create tags in the document viewer. In the TAGS section, in the Click or type to add a tag text box, enter a name for the new tag. Then, select a tag group from the Select a tag group dropdown. When you are finished, click Create and apply tag. This capability is available for users with the administrator, reviewer, or restricted reviewer roles.
Renaming a tag
Once a tag has been created, you may not edit the tag name. Instead, create a replacement tag:
- Create a new tag.
- Run a search on the old tag, using the search syntax tag("sample name"), and then click Tag.
- Update the documents by applying the new tag to the documents and removing the old tag from the documents.
- Delete the old tag on the Tags page.
Tag groups
On the Tags page, tags are organized into Tag groups. By default, tag groups are in alphabetical order. You can drag and drop tag groups into the order in which you would like them to appear in the document viewer. Similarly, tags are, by default, ordered alphabetically within each tag group, and you can also drag and drop them into any order you prefer.
You can add a new tag, move a tag to a different group, or delete a tag on the Tags page. Documents tagged with privilege tags will be automatically added to the privilege log, and the privilege tags will appear in red throughout the DISCO interface.
To add a new tag group, in the Add new group text box, enter the name for the new group, and then click the plus sign icon.
Tag shortcuts
When tags are created, they are automatically assigned a keyboard shortcut. Tag shortcuts are in the format of SHIFT + [Letter or Digit]. The letter will generally be the first letter of the tag name (if the first letter is already in use, this defaults to a subsequent letter in the tag name, or any unused letter or number if necessary). The shortcuts for each tag are shown on the Tags page. Keyboard shortcuts will only be assigned for the first 36 tags created (26 letters + 10 numerical digits).
Administrators and reviewers may also edit the default assigned shortcuts on the Tags page. Hover over the row of the tag whose shortcut you want to edit, and then select a new keyboard letter for the shortcut.
Tag colors
To customize your tag colors in DISCO:
- In the DISCO main menu, click Tags.
- On the Tags page, in the All Tags section, click the tag group to which you want to assign a color.
- Select a color from the colors dropdown. After assigning colors to your tag groups, the assigned colors will be displayed next to each tag group in the All Tags section.
Tag colors will be displayed anywhere tags are used in DISCO.
Tag naming best practices
If possible, we recommend that you do not add special characters to your tag names. Instead, use alphanumeric characters.
