Your new database has fast & secure language translations
Now you can securely translate and review foreign language documents right inside DISCO Ediscovery. Translated text stays in the translated text pane and is viewable by any other member of your case team.
Translations improves attorney workflows by providing real-time, on-demand translations of foreign language documents in the document viewer, next to the original document. This expedites document reviews, reduces costs, and empowers attorneys with timely, critical insights for robust strategy formulation.
This feature is in Run.
How to enable translations for your review team
- As a database administrator for your matter navigate to the Review Team page
- Click the 'Roles' tab
- Locate the ‘Document Viewer’ section of Feature Permissions and then enable Translations for the various roles on your team (default is off)
- Worth noting that the default roles (admin, reviewer, restricted reviewer) are un-editable.
- Because of this to make changes to the reviewer role you'll have to make a copy of the reviewer role by clicking the "Copy this role" button on the top right.
- Once you've made the copy, you can change the default "View" permission for translations to "Manage".
- You'll then have to update your reviewer's roles to the newly created custom role.
- You can change permissions to 'view' or 'manage'
- View: Reviewers may view and read through document translations
- Manage: Reviewers may initiate translations themselves
- Worth noting: All documents greater than 100,000 characters in size will need to be handled separately via DISCO professional services.
-
When creating review stages ensure you enabled translations as there’s an option to enable it when configuring the stage.
How to use translations as a document reviewer
- Locate a foreign language document of interest to you in DISCO search
- Open up the foreign language document in the DISCO document viewer
- Notice the 'Translate' icon in the header view above and to the right of the document
- Click 'Translate' pill button to open up the Translations panel
- From here use the drop down navigation menus to select which language you want the document to translate into. Notice that usually DISCO translations will automatically detect the language of the source document you are translating into another language.
- Select your language from the drop down menu:
- Now click 'Translate' and the translation will begin (you'll likely see a loading animation briefly) then your document translation will be ready
- You can initiate new translations to this document without losing your existing ones. Notice when you initiate new translations your existing translations are retained in the translations panel.
- In the above example, three (3) separate translation operations were performed and retained on this document.
