DISCO’s high-speed uploader is used to configure and transfer files for Native, Load File, Send to DISCO Professional Services, and Overlay. The high-speed uploader runs in the background to enable configuration of ingests, overlays, and transfers of files to DISCO.
The high-speed uploader is only supported on Windows or MacOSX.
Installing the high-speed uploader
To download and install the high-speed uploader:
- In the DISCO main menu, click Ingest.
- On the Ingest page, click Install high-speed uploader. If the button isn’t available, the uploader is probably already installed on your computer.
- On your computer, open the DISCO Agent Installer file.
- If you are prompted to allow the program to make changes to your computer, click Yes.
- Select the installation location and click Install.
Note: If you are using a Windows computer and you get a warning message such as the following, click Run anyway to continue installing the high-speed uploader. -
When the installation is complete, close the window.
Once the program is installed, you can start using it to ingest data.
Using the high-speed uploader
The high-speed uploader normally can run in the background of any Windows or Apple computer. When on the ingest page, DISCO checks to see if the agent is running. If DISCO cannot identify the agent running on the computer while the user is on the Ingest page, it attempts to start the agent. If it cannot start the agent, it will prompt the user to install the agent.
Users will only be able to use Native Lite or Send to DISCO via SFTP or Mail if the Agent is not running.
Some browser settings or enterprise network setups prevent DISCO from identifying the DISCO Agent software as installed or running on a computer. When that happens, users can always manually start the agent through their Applications, either from the Start Menu (Windows) or Spotlight (OSX).
Updating the high-speed uploader
DISCO periodically updates the high-speed uploader to improve performance, increase security, and add features. When an update is available, you will be prompted to re-install the application.
There are two kinds of updates to the high-speed uploader, forced updates and optional updates.
Optional updates provide access to the best performance and newest features, but are not required.
Forced updates are required updates and are generally for security improvements.
Selecting "Update Now" in the banner will tell the DISCO Agent to automatically download the updated version of the high-speed uploader in the background. Once the new version is downloaded, the Agent will open the installation wizard to begin the install process for the new version.
Once the new version of the high-speed uploader is installed, you will see a notification on the ingest page. When you see the notification, you're ready to begin your ingest.
You can always check which version of the DISCO Agent is installed by right clicking on the agent icon while it's running.
