DISCO continues to enhance our production capabilities while maintaining our intuitive interface and production speed. Now we have augmented our production functionality with the ability to both produce in native format and withhold documents by tag, along with the means to create custom slipsheets.
To start a new production:

On the DISCO home page, in the main menu, click Productions.
- On the Productions page, click Create New.
In previous versions of DISCO, users were limited to producing documents in native format only by file type with the standard DISCO slipsheet. Now you can choose to produce documents as native by both file type and/or tags and create slipsheets as well.
The new native selections can be found under Advanced options. DISCO will still auto-populate the file types most commonly produced in native format (Audio, CAD, Excel, Unknown, and Video). To remove any file type from the list, click on the X next to the file type name. To add a file type, click in the white box and select additional file types from the pick list. To produce as native by tag, click in the tag box and select the tags you want from the tag list.
DISCO alerts you to exactly how many native files will be produced in native format. The number of documents that will be produced as native will appear in the lower right corner of the Natives section. As always, any documents that have been redacted in DISCO will automatically be produced as images and the production will NOT include a native file regardless of the file type or tag associated with the document.
In addition to being able to produce as native by both file type and tag, DISCO now allows you to customize the Produced as Native slipsheet. Click the dropdown under "Native Slipsheet" and click Custom format to format your slipsheet.
Custom slipsheets allow you to format a header, sub-header, and body for your slipsheets. In each slipsheet section, you can either free type text or add any one of more than 60 pieces of fielded information.
To add fielded information such as file extension or native file name, click the Insert field data button at the top right corner of each text box. This will take you to the field selection list where you can search for and select from all available fields including both metadata and work product.
Once you have run your production, you will be able to view your custom slipsheet in the document viewer.
The ability to create custom slipsheets is not limited to documents produced in native format. Any document in the production set can now be replaced with a slipsheet. Instead of completely excluding a document, use a slipsheet as a placeholder. When the withheld documents are produced, DISCO will generate the slipsheet along with only a subset of fields in load file (custodians and Bates numbers).
To start, click Add a slipsheet rule under "Withhold and slipsheet documents" to create your slipsheet rules.
Next, select the tags to withhold and create a custom slipsheet using the same options found under produce as native slipsheets. If you want to create a distinct slipsheet for each type of document withheld, DISCO allows you to create multiple tag rules that will be implemented in a hierarchical form.
In the screenshot below, the document(s) tagged Not Work Related will be replaced with a slipsheet that includes the DOCUMENT WITHHELD AS NON-RESPONSIVE header and custom text, along with file name and file extension information in the body. Documents tagged Confidential will be replaced with a slipsheet that includes the DOCUMENT WITHHELD header, custom text in the sub-header and body, and the Custodian field information.
DISCO will also provide you with the number of documents that meet each slipsheet rule.
It is important to note that Withhold and slipsheet rules are ranked by number. If a document meets more than one rule, the highest ranked rule will be applied to that document. Furthermore, if a document meets the criteria to be produced as native AND to be withheld, the withhold rule prevails.
In the example above, if a document is tagged as both Not Work Related and Confidential, the Not Work Related slipsheet rule would be applied since it is ranked number 1. To change a Withhold and slipsheet rule ranking, click the number and select a new ranking from the dropdown list.
Finally, if you want to carry over the Produce as native or Withhold and slipsheet formatting decisions to future productions, click the Production Settings dropdown at the top of the page when creating a production and select an applicable, previously-ran production that contained your desired formatting. This will apply all of your advanced option formatting choices to the new production set. For more information, see Naming, searching, and copying productions.
The ability to create custom slipsheets, produce-as-native by tag, and withhold by tag is available to all new databases created on or after July 25, 2017.
